Camrose Canada
When did your family move to this place and why?
We moved to Camrose, Alberta in 2010. We moved here for my husbands career in the Parks industry. We chose to make the move while our children were still young and just starting school.
How has this history affected your life and perspective?
The history of the area is Scandinavian which is a culture I wasn’t really familiar with. I have Ukrainian and Polish heritage and although the surrounding communities have a big Ukrainian population, Camrose has a relatively small one. I was happy to have so much Ukrainian Culture in near by Edmonton because it was something I felt comfortable with. I have learned a lot about the Scandinavian Culture which has been interesting. The area was a travelling route for Indigenous and Métis People. It’s an interesting area politically. We are in a very Conservative riding, however, we also have a University of Alberta Campus in our community which brings a very Liberal voice to the community which I am glad to see.
What is your gender (if you are comfortable disclosing)?
Female
What is your generational status: 1st generation in Canada, 2nd generation, and so on?
My grandfather on my dad’s side came from Poland. The rest of my grandparents were born in Canada.
